You ain't nothing but a hound dog....

So you might remember a few posts back I included a photo of all these different fabrics I had recently acquired. Yesterday, I decided I was going to work with one of them. I'd had it in my head that I needed to make myself a JSK for more Loli-able summer wear.

So I did.

This fabric is actually something I picked up on sale from Walmart a few months ago. Isn't it neat? The print features all of Elvis Presley's military records and information. I found it pretty cool since I'm an Elvis fan.

To make this JSK, I actually altered a tutorial I found here for a One-Piece. Instead of creating sleeves, I simply made some straps and attached them to the bodice. I also did the shirring a bit differently, it's only on the back piece.

Moving on, I wanted to direct you to this wonderful post by Her Curious Elegance. To me, she is a very wonderful and insightful person and I think everyone should read this post of hers. It's no-nonsense and completely common sense.

A Bodyline Review

So quite a number of weeks ago I received a Bodyline package containing one of those "sets". There was supposed to be a parasol tucked in there as well, but that was missing from my order. I did contact Bodyline and they did give me a refund.

Now, onto the items that I actually did receive.

1. JSK
2. Blouse
3. Underskirt

The JSK is actually really cute, but I had to do some alterations to make it fit better and look more natural. The straps in the back were off-center and since this is a kind of halter-top style JSK I simply cut the back straps off. Now it's much better. The fabric is very lightweight and comfy, which is perfect for summer. The heart itself on the front is a pocket and there's a smaller pocket inside the zipper. Overall: 4/5

The blouse is cute but not terribly comfortable. There's a side zipper which allows you to easily slip it on but for some reason it's much harder to get back off. The sleeves are detachable though and are the perfect length for my arms, which is a perk, since my arms are long and most blouses from Bodyline tend to be a tad bit too short for me. And I despise too-short sleeves. The blouse looks very natural under the JSK but it will work nicely for other coordinates as well.  Overall: 3.5/5

The underskirt, which I unfortunately didn't snag a photo of, is the nicest piece. Made of a heavy and draping fabric, it's a simple elastic waist skirt with some polka dot lace on the hem. Again, very useful for other coordinates and not only works as a skirt on it's own but makes a beautiful underskirt for other items. Overall: 5/5

Total ensemble: 4/5
Total purchase: 3/5 (I wanted that damn parasol!)

Behind-The-Bows

Once upon a time "Lolita Secrets" was a community for girls to post anonymously about various Lolita topics. Whether about brand prices, the difficulty of finding a decent petticoat, or the dubiousness of Chinese Ebay sellers, most of the time it was pretty harmless.

I've been lurking there for a while now though. I suppose because I'm half-paranoid I'm going to find myself on it one day....

For those of you who don't frequent this LJ community, "Lolita Secrets" has become a forum for bashing other Lolitas, being racist, and hating on obesity behind the safety of a computer screen and no name. Granted, it's been this way for a long time, but it seems like it's getting worse. Where IS all this hostility coming from? It's amazing that some pretty clothing can bring out the worst in a group of people....

I'd like to take this opportunity to point out some rather choice (read: nasty) secrets and tear them apart.

The English here isn't so hot, but that's beside the point. This person clearly has an issue with the Lolita in pink dating the Lolita not in pink. Since when is it your business who dates whom? If they are happy together, let them be. Jealousy is not flattering on anyone.

This makes me so sad....really? I bet you don't have the guts to say that to their faces, do you? No, you're probably afraid they'll clothesline you and for good reason. Wouldn't you rather see these girls dressing in a way that makes them feel beautiful and modest as opposed to looking like crap in Walmart shorts and tank top? Think about it...moron.

They'd probably find you ugly too. Stop wearing their brand.

So, basically you're saying that anyone with dark hair who wears Moitie is a Mana cosplayer? What about anyone wearing a full AP ensemble? Aren't they cosplaying one of the designers then? Herp derp.

Oho~! And who made you the authority on "Lolita" behavior? Just curious.....

Yes, yes, you never once made a mistake. You were born wearing "burando", weren't you?

Well, I feel much better! Sometimes I simply need to get this out of my system.  And now....maybe I really will end up as a secret on this silly community. Bring it on!
